Argue This: – awareness of mass = beneficial (regarding road safety)

In road safety, an awareness of speed is an important factor to consider.
An awareness of momentum, brings an awareness to consider the mass of vehicles.
In road safety, an awareness of mass is an important factor to consider.

Argue This: – Awareness of mass = beneficial (regarding road safety).

Argument:
(assume the accident is same for both)

A. If a small car tail-gates another small car, all travelling at 30mph…. should an accident occur…. and one collides with the rear of the other:
….. a certain amount of injury and damage, could occur.

Now this:

B. If a large lorry tial-gates another small car, all travelling at 30 mph…. should an accident occur…. and one collides with the rear of the other:
….. a greater amount of injury and damage, could occur.

Conclusion:
For the same speed, in an accident, a difference in mass of a vehicle, brings about a difference in potential injury and damage.

A small car has a smaller mass, than a large lorry. So it is relevant. So it is beneficial to know (regarding road safety)

There is another area that I consider this “mass” reality to be relevant, therefore beneficial:
In that drivers (some), of 4×4’s etc, get an attitude of arrogance towards others in standard massed vehicles, due to (amongst other things), a sense of “I’m more protected”.

If the mass of vehicles were widely taken into account… this may help challenge some arrogant attitudes.

Yes it is beneficial. Anything that makes people account for their responsibility, is beneficial.
Tailgating is tailgating, so wrong in itself, but anyone who is RESPONSIBLE for their vehicle, should be held accountable for the Ummmph, that it carries. (momentum, I believe is the term).

If mass was a talked about factor:
The driver of the lorry would know he/she has a larger massed vehicle, so has a larger resonsibility.

ALSO – the police should have a new law – bigger vehicle doing stupid stuff = bigger punishment.
      That’ll help
The driver of the small car should know

I reckon there IS an awareness of mass, but probably more described as weight. It must be known to all, that a lorry weighs more than a car and can do more damage. It just isn't really placed in any retoric, so having a project that puts this forward in a context of sorts IS a benefit, if placed in an easy to "get", campaign type idea.

Once I tuned into the P=mv bit. I "got it" and it made sense and seemed could apply to a lot of scenarios and discussions relating to road safety.

Suppose the hard bit would be to create easy to "tune-in" ways of introducing the concept. Good luck
